Faces

Silver and copper ring with Photo Booth face image enameled on the front
I have had an obsession with faces for over 40 years.
I have drawn them, painted them, photographed them, and now I have them in metal. The ones that intrigue me most are the faces of many generations of my family members. These pieces are a composite of many years of working with familiar faces.
This is what comes out when I close my eyes.
Mixed media, copper, torch fired enamels, iron oxide pigments, laquer
Reposed face earring. Copper handmade repoussed ear
etched and torch fired copper & enamel necklace with handmade copper chain
Earrings with face images from photo booth pictures enameled on to them
Repoussé (French pronunciation: [ʁəpuse] or repoussage [ʁəpusaʒ]  is an ancient metalworking technique where an impressionable metal is decorated or shaped by hammering, using specific tools, from the back side to create a design in low relief. It is used along with chasing which adds definition to the piece,  using chisel-like tools with a hammer. The work is placed in a pitch bowl which supports the metal while being worked.

The 3 dimensional pieces including the copper ear are done using this age old technique.

Many of my pieces have color added by using vitreous torch-fired enamels. In enameling vitreous means a thin layer of glass that is fused to metal using high heat.
