The spiral is deeply embedded in all of nature. From a scientific point of view, it is fundamental to the structure of many life forms: plants, seashells, the human body, atomic elements, microscopic DNA, and the spiraling orbits of planets and galaxies.
I start by welding/fusing heavy copper wire into a bangle, then forging and forming it until it is flat. I drill, file, and sand it, then finish it with a liver of sulphur patina. To create the 15, 3/4" spirals, I forge both ends of 14 gauge copper wire and carefully curve them into spirals. I enamel both sides to give a rich, primitive, golden color, then attach them to the bangle with 16 gauge copper wire jump rings. The combination of the metal and glass make music as it jangles on your wrist.
The bangle's inside diameter is 2-3/4", but can be made larger or smaller. Please allow 4-6 days for fabrication. (Let me know if you are in a hurry.)
I am attracted to using copper for many reasons. The total amount of copper on Earth is vast, and in addition to that, recycling is a major source of it in the modern world.
Copper occurs naturally as native copper and was known to some of the oldest civilizations on record. It has a history of use that is at least 10,000 years old. It is known as a good conductor of energy and is healing for the mind, body and spirit.
Enameling is the art of fusing glass to metal. Enamel (glass) is crushed to a powder like the consistency of fine sand. This powder is then applied to a metal surface. Then the piece is heated either in a kiln, or with a hand-held torch. More coats, normally different colors, can be applied. Sometimes 10-20 firings are required to bring about the desired results.
To insure safe delivery to you, these earrings will be carefully wrapped in tissue paper, inside a gift box tied with raffia. Then packaged and shipped USPS first class. Cost also includes delivery confirmation.
