The chengellian woman

The Chengellian Woman
The Chengellian Woman - A study in proportion, geometry, and other worlds
The female energy amidst the male energy - the divine feminine with mathematical geometric formulas. How 1 folds into the other like a yin yang. The ethereal images are the opposite of math yet made of math. Through many different techniques of enameling I have created pieces expressing my curiosity of this world.

I started thinking about the Vitruvian man, maybe I should make a Vitruvian woman. I started researching it a bit – Leonardo’s drawing was a study in proportion - the whole one head is 1/10 of the whole body fingers etc. and how it relates to nature. While interesting it really wasn’t interesting enough for me to create a Vitruvian woman based on proportion – so I thought deeper and realized I could do whatever I wanted – duh. I could use the images of my mother and the images of my geometry together (juxtaposition) and with the Vitruvian man in mind I could create my own woman with things I found more interesting than proportion – and I could call her whatever I wanted – I went through a few names but thought the best would be The Chengellian Woman. My mother‘s pre-married name was Chengellis so I liked it and that’s what she became.

When Is a Necklace Not a Necklace

Sometimes jewelry isn't really meant to be worn. Sometimes it is just more of an idea floating past your eyes. Some pieces just put together in the shape of a necklace, not physically connected, just touching to create a new surface for just a few minutes. Then the pieces get shuffled around, mixed-up... Here one minute, gone the next...
